Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Sardinia hotels - The island contains numerous extraordinary tourist areas, including the Costa Smeralda and Gennargentu. The island is particularly famous for its beaches, but is also rich in other interesting places, such as some charming sea towns and archeological ruins. Its coastline is probably Europe's most spectacular. Its waters teem with fish and shellfish. Its broad valleys turn into golden oceans of wheat in summer. Its rugged mountains, pocked with caves, are home to large flocks of sheep that feed on pungent wild herbs and produce. Nestled into its silent olive groves are some of the continent's oldest archeological remains, dating back to 1700 BC. Sardinia hotels - The climate in the coast and lower inland zones is mild with little quantity of rains and due to it problem of drought. The higher inland has a continental climate usually in the winter time the cold wind from the north-west blows on the island territory. Sardinia hotels - Among the main activities on the island is a sheep-breeding, it gives resources for wool, meet and milk, cheese (pecorino sardo) productions. Could also be noticed the intensification of cattle and pig breeding. Thus Sardinia is the only region in Italy that is more successful in breeding than in other agricultural productions. The Sardinian economy is today focused on tourism (peaking with the Costa Smeralda), industry, commerce, services and information technology; an increasing income is coming from its famous wines and gastronomy. Bed and breakfasts - On part of Sardinians live in major cities, and the other is spread all over the territory in little settlements. In the regional classification of welfare Sardinia occupies the 14th place. The quality of medical assistance is equal to average Italian rate and higher than in the southern Italy, as well as expenses for sport and recreation, diffusion of information and education.
